WEINBERG, Sanford Sanford “Sandy” Weinberg, age 61, of Sandy Springs died on October 8, 2011. Sandy was born in Newark, NJ on June 14, 1950, and grew up in Livingston, NJ. He graduated with a BA in Political Science from Dickinson College in 1972, an MA from the University of North Carolina in 1973, a PhD in Communication Research from the University of Michigan in 1975, and completed Post Doctoral Studies in Computer Engineering from the University of Florida in 1976. From 1976-present, he served as a regulatory and computer validation consultant to biomedical, pharmaceutical, medical device, and biotechnology industries and governments worldwide. He held Associate Professorships at Drexel University and St. Joseph’s University. Sandyserved as President of Weinberg, Spelton & Sax, Inc. (formerly Weinberg Associates, Inc.) from 1986 to 1996, where he developed FDA standards that many companies use today. He was Vice President, Entrepreneur-in Residence, and Professor of Entrepreneurship, Muhlenberg College, and Director of the Institute of Entrepreneurship from 1993 to 2006. He was the Senior Director of BioDefense, GE Healthcare from 2003 to 2006, and the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance with Tikyah Therapeutics, Inc. from 2006 to 2008. An Eagle Scout, Sandy was a Life Member of the Boy Scouts of America, member of the Order of the Arrow, and in 1993 he received the Silver Beaver Award. He served on the Executive Board of the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America as well as the Atlanta Area Councilís safety & security committee. He also taught Wilderness First Aid. On the national level, he served on the International Committee and the Jewish Committee on Scouting, taught international courses at BSA’s national training center at the Philmont Scout Ranch and he attended several national and international jamborees. Sandy was the author of more than 15 books and numerous publications, most notably on FDA regulatory affairs. He currently worked as Associate Professor of Health Care Management and Executive Director, Center for Clinical Studies and Regulation, Clayton State University, and also as Executive Editor of the Journal of Clinical Studies and Regulatory Affairs, published by Informa Healthcare. He leaves behind his wife, Ronelle Genser, Sandy Springs; daughter, Amy Weinberg and her husband Harry Gafanovich, Hollywood, FL; son, Joseph Weinberg and his wife Nykki, Minneapolis, MN; parents, Florence and Harold Weinberg, Alpharetta, GA; brother, David Weinberg and his wife Kathie, Bethesda, MD; and grandchildren, Eli and Isaac Gafanovich.

Weinberger, Dail
After having worked for Foster Wheeler for 20 years, my dad died. He and my mom had been living in Florida for many years and I decided to move to the Sunshine State temporarily to help out my mom. Well my temporary relocation turned into 28 years! I live in Bradenton which is between Tampa/St. Pete and Sarasota, and it only takes me 10 minutes to get to the beach. I’ve had a very diverse career which included piping estimator, kitchen designer, bookseller, customer service manager and adoption specialist in child welfare. I retired in 2012.  (Yay!)

My life changed drastically in 2014. Two major surgeries on my neck and back left me partially disabled, but I’m very fortunate in that I’m able to stay extremely busy and as active as possible. I volunteer at a cat shelter and at “Our Daily Bread”, a soup kitchen.  I enjoy book clubs and my trips to NJ in the fall and to Utah in the summer. I’ve only been on one cruise so far but I’m eagerly anticipating my next one. Also lunches and dinners out with friends and as many live music events as I can find. Life is good…! I have been married to Chuck since December 1971. We have a son 45 with 3 children , and a son 40 with 1 child. We have stayed in Tampa Bay where I taught for almost 40 years. I am happily retired and enjoy my grandchildren and family and longtime friends. I work out at the Y and read along with being a member of a service club. We travel as often as possible. After HS, University of Arizona graduated with a BA in Political Science and Sociology and minor in Anthropology. Returned to NJ, Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall Law school. Worked for the NJ Legislature drafting proposed laws. Became legislative aid to Hon Thomas H. Kean, then legal counsel to Republicans in NJ Assembly. When Kean became governor, I was appointed NJ Assistant Secretary of State. Private and Public Practice for many years, currently Director of Legal Management for University of Dentisrty and Medicine. Married to wife, Denise 28 years, a daughter Rachel, 25, just married living in Silver Spring, MD working for Discovery Channel and a son Aaron 21, attending Longwood University in Virginia. Lawrence Glen Werner, affectionately known as “Larry” to those who knew and loved him, of Atco, NJ, passed away on July 5, 2020. Born in Livingston, NJ to the late William and Elizabeth Werner, he was 70 years old.
Larry was the beloved father of Kristin Tyler and Jessica Kolakowski (Jimmy). Cherished “Opa” of Savanna Tyler and Jaxon Kolakowski. Loving partner of Marlene Massaro for 20 years. Larry leaves behind extended family and dear friends who will miss him tremendously.

Anyone who met him learned quick that his three loves in life were: his family, his boat “My Motivation” and tropical beaches.

I graduated from nursing school in April 1971 and was married the following September. Vin and I moved to Wilmington, DE where I worked in a Children’s Specialized Hospital for two years before moving to Brewster, NY. Our daughter and son were born in 1974 and 1977, respectively. We moved to CT in 1979 and consider this area our home. I have been a school nurse for a number of years and currently have in my care eight-hundred 7th-8th graders and they keep me on my toes. In 2000, after our childen finished college, I returned to school to earn a Bachelor in Nursing. Our children are both married and we have a 2-1/2 year old grandson. My journey from Livingston in 1968 has certainly been a “long and winding road.” I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1972 following four tumultuous years of political activation (remember the anti-war movement?), theater, and taking my place amongst the “Woodstock Generation” (yes, I WAS there). When I left Pittsburgh, my trail led through California, Virginia, Florida, Atlanta, back to Virginia and ultimately to central Pennsylvania. After I cut my hair, my working career somehow led me back to my roots in retail – where after “climbing the corporate ladder” in the chain drug industry, I again broke ranks and opened and operated my own health food store for two decades (much more rewarding than my corporate years). I sold the store and retired in April 2016, after 20 years-almost to the day. I met my (first and only) wife of 42 years in a hospital elevator in Richmond, Virginia in 1973 and we have one son, who became a Chiropractor in 2008 and now has a very successful practice in Philly. After a lifetime of not looking back, I am very excited once again to renew some high school connections! Now living mostly in the UK, spending 4-5 months a year in Provence, France. Working part-time as Chairman of a drug development company I co-founded when I “retired” in 2009. Sometime in the late 1970s I went to visit Ashley with Ricky Kaufman. Ricky didn’t graduate from Livingston High but he went through the elementary school system and was my neighbor on Alcott Drive. Ricky remembered Ashley from school and wanted to see how he was doing considering his disability. Ashley lived with his sister in a really old house on North Livingston Avenue. His sister was really happy that someone would come and visit Ashley and thanked us for trying to show Ashley that people haven’t forgotten him regardless of his condition. I’ve got to admit that all the credit should go to Ricky. It also reminds me of the kindness and concern of the classmates who visited Jim Snyder.

I didn’t graduate from Livingston high School; I moved away in 1964. I was a friend and neighbor of Ashley’s, but I knew him as Buttons. We played together often for years. He was a nice boy and I enjoyed his company. He lived in a big old house with his mother, his older brother and his younger sister. I believe her name is Claire Lynn. I have thought of Buttons from time to time in the years since I last saw him . I was saddened to hear of his death, much more than I would have expected. We all lose when any one of us leaves this earth.
